Hunters harvesting deer on Deer Management Assistance Program lands must follow tagging and validation instructions provided by LDWF. Hunters on Wildlife Management Areas can validate kills during mandatory deer checks when deer check stations are in operation. Within 72 hours of harvesting the deer, the hunter must validate the kill either by phone ( 225.267.9998) or online. Hunters who keep the carcass or meat at camp must also comply with resident game possession tag regulations (see below). The hunter must keep the tag attached to the deer while keeping the deer at camp and while transporting it to the hunter’s home or a cold storage facility. The hunter must record the date and parish of the kill on the carcass tag and record the date of kill for the corresponding tag number on the harvest report card portion of the deer tag license. Immediately after harvesting a deer, the hunter must tag the deer with the appropriate carcass tag before moving it from where it was killed. They must also have the tags in their possession while hunting deer. Prior to hunting deer, all deer hunters, regardless of age or license status, must obtain deer tags. ![]()
